The most specific thing anyone has said about Grand Theft Auto 6's multiplayer mode this year came from a man who doesn't work at Rockstar Games.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy sat down with Bloomberg to talk about what GTA 6 will do to his platform's numbers, and somewhere in the middle of it he put a date on an online mode nobody has announced. "You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer." Next year is 2027. Rockstar has never said that, and neither has Take-Two.

Rockstar Says GTA 6 Has No Microtransactions and No AI. Now Ask About GTA Online.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Ultimate Edition key art

Ask a game executive about monetization and you normally get a paragraph with an escape hatch built into it. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson gave reporters two short answers instead: there is no monetization in Grand Theft Auto 6, and no generative AI in it either.

That comes from Kinda Funny's Andy Cortez and Greg Miller, who each put the question to Nelson during press visits to the studio and reported the answers on the Kinda Funny Gamecast. Cortez asked whether you can use real-world money to buy things in the game and got "no monetization." Miller says he asked point blank whether AI is in the game and got "no AI." A New York Times feature on GTA VI published August 27 lands in the same place, and reports that Rockstar emphasized the game's human-made craft.

GTA 6 Is Making You Work for Stolen Cars

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look key art from Rockstar Games

Stealing a car in Grand Theft Auto has taken about as much effort as opening a door for two decades now. Walk up, hold a button, drive away. In Grand Theft Auto VI, that stops working on a lot of cars.

Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, told IGN the studio has "put some layers of stratification into the vehicles." Before, "you could just press triangle to automatically hotwire and steal any vehicle." Now certain parked cars stay shut to you "until you get a bit further along with the story and you acquire certain tools to get into them." Carjacking is untouched. In Nelson's words, "You can always carjack any driver you see."

Rockstar Is Putting the Next GTA 6 Reveal Behind a Netflix Login for Six Hours

Grand Theft Auto VI artwork featuring Lucia and Jason

For thirteen years, the pattern was simple. Rockstar drops a Grand Theft Auto trailer on YouTube, a hundred million people watch it, and the internet talks about nothing else for a week. No showcase, no partner, no gatekeeper. That changes on August 27.

Rockstar announced today that "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premieres on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, and won't hit the official Rockstar YouTube channel or the GTA VI site until 9 p.m. ET the same day. Netflix gets a six-hour head start on the most anticipated video the industry has left.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is fun, but Xbox 360 HD remaster is rough

Grand Theft Auto San ANdreas

Somehow, 10 years have already passed since the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas--arguably the most innovative game in the series. To coincide with the recent anniversary, Rockstar re-released the game on Xbox 360, replacing the Games on Demand version with a slightly improved version. And while the game itself remains an enjoyable experience, this may not be the best way of revisiting it.

I find myself occasionally in the mood to play one of the classic GTA III-era games (GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas), which are among my all-time favorite games. I typically ignore this compulsion or simply spend a few minutes with the iPhone version of GTA III; I get my small dose of nostalgia but invariably stop playing because, despite Rockstar's best efforts, these are not games that work well on a touchscreen.

An improved re-release of San Andreas was exciting news for me--while a release on Xbox One or PS4 would have been ideal, a cheap Xbox 360 version with improved graphics, better draw distance, and achievements sounds like a great way to revisit the game.

Petition for Grand Theft Auto 5 PC nears 50,000 signatures

Grand Theft Auto V PC

Mike Juliard's petition to get Rockstar to confirm the PC port of Grand Theft Auto 5 has surpassed 47,500 signatures, just 52,500 shy of his 100,000 goal.

From the petition: "GTA games have been a large part of so many peoples lives, and it’s a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform.”

One of the more pronounced reasons for a PC port is the mod community, as we've been privy to some amazing mods from GTA4 before it: “things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have.”

According to Dan Houser of Rockstar, a PC port is "up for consideration," and this petition should do a lot to make Rockstar realize the PC audience's dedication to the franchise. Grand Theft Auto V is set for a Spring 2013 release.

Grand Theft Auto V trailer [Video]

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Action, PlayStation 3, Trailers, Xbox 360,

After months of speculation, Rockstar Games on Wednesday released a trailer for Grand Theft Auto V. In a little over a minute and 20 seconds, Rockstar sets the scene for the highly anticipated game and introduces what is presumably the main character.

The trailer answers a few questions. First of all, the game seems to be returning to the fictional state of San Andreas, specifically to Los Santos, a city based on Los Angeles. The narrator of the trailer also seems to be the main character. His voiceover suggests that he is a reformed criminal who has moved back to Los Santos to pursue a life on the straight and narrow.

He said he wanted to "retire ... from that line of work. Be a good guy for once. A family man." Gamers can assume that’s probably not going to be the case, as the trailer progresses into clips of car chases and holdups.

But this is all purely speculation at this point.

Boy Tries To Drive After Playing Video Games

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Action, Driving,

GTAA 6 year-old boy in Virginia missed his school bus so he decided to take his parents’ car to school. During his time behind the wheel, he passed some cars, made a couple of 90ยบ turns and ran off the road a few times. He eventually crashed after driving almost 6 miles, but suffered only minor injuries. His parents were then charged with child endangerment when it was found that his mom was asleep during the incident. The funny part of the story was that he told police he learned to drive while playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam. What we want to know is why the a kid that old would want to get to school so badly, although he claims it was for breakfast and PE class.
